MORE POLITICAL GAMES: VOCAL-NY DENOUNCES GOV. HOCHUL’S CALL FOR INCREASED FUNDING FOR POLICE
NEW YORK — In response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s statements pledging additional funding for law enforcement at an annual conference of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police after the death of a Rochester police officer, VOCAL-NY released the following statement:
“Governor Hochul’s statements send a clear message: the lives of law enforcement matter more than the lives of civilians,” said Billy Davis, a leader with the Rochester chapter of VOCAL-NY, whose son was shot and killed by Rochester law enforcement. “When a police officer is killed the Governor rushes to make a statement, but when a civilian is killed, their body is left lying there for hours and nothing changes. We need investments in services, housing, and care in our communities – not more political games and funding for the same officers that are killing us.”
