Diyaa Capil (they/them) is the Development Coordinator of VOCAL-NY. Born and raised in New Jersey, Diyaa studied Political Science and American Studies at Rutgers University, graduating in 2020.  While at Rutgers, Diyaa found a passion for grassroots organizing as a part of United Students Against Sweatshops, where they worked to form a student worker union and support labor union contract negotiations. They were heavily involved with the Asian American Cultural Center and proudly advocated for political education and activism in the Asian American community. This developed a deep need for them to organize around intersectional issues that embody the importance of breaking down class, gender, and racial barriers.

Diyaa canvassed for environmental legislation in New Jersey, which led to a Development Internship at the Center for Civilians in Conflict. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for at-home grassroots organizing became inherently clear, and Diyaa began working at VOCAL-NY in November 2021. Diyaa is proud to be part of an organization that embodies a shared vision for the world based on policies of justice and equity and politics of love and compassion.
